More than 400 employees from across the University of Minnesota attended the Sponsored Projects Symposium on Feb. 14 for a day of education, networking and recognition. The event opened with a welcome by President Eric Kaler and an overview of the 2011 annual report by Tim Mulcahy, vice president for research.
Attendees delved into all aspects of research administration via nearly 20 different breakout sessions. Topics ranged from export controls and fixed price awards to financial management of clinical trials. During lunch, Regents Professor Tom Johnson of the U of M, Duluth Large Lakes Observatory delivered a presentation on the Great Lakes of the East African Rift Valley.
“Once again this year the event was a tremendous success,” says Sarah Waldemar, co-chair of the symposium planning committee. “The ongoing interest and great turnout are signs of the research community’s dedication to knowing the latest tools and information, and following best practices in sponsored research.”
